Still playing the Nintendo 64 in 2017, but sick and tired of that bizarre controller design after all these years? Retro Fighters just successfully funded the solution to that incredibly specific issue. In no time at all, a modern redesign of one of gaming history’s most controversial controller designs has been funded well beyond its goal, showing just how popular the retro gaming scene really is.
The Retro Fighters N64 controller is not a fancy USB shell for emulation or other tomfoolery. This is a straight-up, third-party N64 controller that works with regular N64 consoles and even has Memory Card and Rumble Pak support. Retro Fighters suggests purchasing a USB adapter to use this bad boy on other devices, of which there are several options. However, should the Kickstarter be successful (it already is), the creators do plan to produce a USB version later.
The controller looks almost like a N64-themed version of the Switch Pro Controller. It just has the infamous C-buttons instead of a second analog stick. It even has turbo functionality for unfair garbage like the waterfall minigame in Legend of the Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon. Just saying.
