Certain Destiny 2 Content Locked After Expansion Release
Destiny 2

Another day, another bit of Destiny drama. The Destiny 2 expansion, Curse of Osiris, has finally been released. With the expansion comes a raised level cap, from 300 to 330. Certain endgame content, such as the Raid and Nightfall challenges, have recommendations or gates tied to power, meaning that content designed for people at the level cap is no longer available for folks at 300.

Of course, not everyone has run out and dropped the coin on Curse of Osiris at day one. What that means is that, while still on the standard Destiny 2 game, content that was accessible 24 hours ago is no longer available to those same players. In order to get back in, not only will they have to grind up their power level again, but they’ll have to pay a fee for the privilege.

In terms of the Destiny 2 structure, the power level-related stuff makes sense. Part of the ongoing problem with Destiny games is content flow, and most online, MMO-like experiences rely on rising level caps over time. When you tie the content to the level cap, as Destiny 2 does with Prestige options, this is the result. Perhaps the issue is in the messaging ahead of time. Either way, Bungie finds itself in further PR hot water not long after the whole XP scaling thing.
