Here’s Where Devil May Cry 5 Fits on the Timeline
Devil May Cry 5

One of the things about the Devil May Cry series is that, with the exception of Ninja Theory’s version, all the games exist on a linear timeline. Mostly notably, the poorly-received Devil May Cry 2 has always rested on the end of that timeline. Of course, fans were eager to learn where the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 rests, and now we have an official answer.

It’s easy to get lost in the weeds when it comes to gaming interviews, especially during events like gamescom 2018. At this event, Devil May Cry 5 made its playable debut, and a lot more about the game was revealed as a consequence. You also have interviews and content that come from Japan in magazines and the like, and of course general press elsewhere. So a curious fan took to Twitter to ask Capcom producer Matt Walker about it, as one such interview placed Devil May Cry 5 after the second game, which is kind of a big deal. Sure enough, Walker confirmed it, noting that that fact has been quietly slipping by in waves of press for the game.

That puts the overall Devil May Cry timeline as 3, 1, 4, 2, 5. Pretty wacky, but it’ll be cool to see something that’s finally “current” in the series.
